What Is GIFTED?
In the summer of 1998, Drea Lewis envisioned an organization that would regularly help students grow spiritually and help nurture those who possessed the gifts of music and song. A few years later in Fall 2000, she started the organization God’s Influence Flowing Through Every Disciple. The organization held a gospel choir rehearsal every Thursday and had Bible study in the first 30 minutes of each rehearsal. Raising money mainly through bake sales, car washes, friends, and even Lewis’ own bank account, GIFTED performed the likes of “What If God Is Unhappy” by Christopher Brinson and the Ensemble, “Total Praise” by Richard Smallwood, and “I Will Bless the Lord” by Hezikiah Walker at any and everywhere there was an audience to listen. Membership increased as the performances went by and by November 2000, there was enough people to fill the positions of the group. The first officers were: President: Callas Dozier, Vice President: Carla Byrce, Treasurer: Shara McClendon, Recording Secretary: Crystal Chubbs, Corresponding Secretary: Monica Pope, Historian: Pamela Simmons, Sargent at Arms: Mathew Staples, Chaplain: Ashaki Jones, Business Manager: Brandy Murray, Alto Section Leader: April Holmes, Tenor Section Leader: Harry Strothers. The organization was officially chartered in Spring 2001. Although the members change, the group still stands as a place for students to share the word of God and connect spiritually.
Our Purpose
To encourage the spiritual wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of its members through reference of the Holy Bible, serve the Georgia Tech and surrounding communities through the various ministries exercised by GIFTED, and maintain fellowship with other GIFTED members, peers on college campuses, the Atlanta community, etc.
